Rye Highlights and Services

  • Rye Playland -The Art Deco style facility is home to the Grand Carousel, a circa 1915 Mangels carousel with 48 jumpers,18 standers and three chariots.This 62-acre municipal preserve on Long Island Sound has an expansive beachfront, ice skating rink and swimming pool.
  • The Rye Arts Center (RAC), founded in 1960 by five Rye families, maintains a multi-disciplinary program with a wide range of classes in the visual, performing, media and literary arts.
  • The Rye YMCA welcomes all and promotes positive values.
  • The Rye City Boat Basin, located one block north of MHH, is a municipal marina comprised of 425 summer slips for power and sail boats.
  • The Rye Historical Society occupies the 18th century Square House located on the Village Green in the center of town. It acquired the Timothy Knapp House in 1992.The Society sponsors special programs, lectures, exhibits, walking tours and numerous family and community activities.
  • The Square House Museum -The Square House was built between 1675 and 1683. During 1774, John and Samuel Adams stayed at the Square House as they traveled to and from the Continental Congress. George Washington also slept there.
  • The Timothy Knapp House -Timothy Knapp built the oldest part of the house sometime between 1667 and 1680. The Knapp House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated a landmark by the City of Rye. It is considered to be the oldest residential property in Westchester County.
  • John Jay Heritage Center -The 23-acre Jay property overlooks Long Island Sound and was the boyhood home of founding father John Jay. 
  • The Rye Chamber of Commerce works to better the business community of the City of Rye. http://www.ryechamberofcommerce.com. 
  • Private Clubs - American Yacht Club, Apawamis Country Club, Coveleigh Club, Manursing Island Club, Shenorock Shore Club and Westchester Country Club and Beach Club.
